Biography
Leon Leube is a Filipino-German artist born in 1992 in Nürnberg, Germany. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Nürnberg in 2018. He lives and works in Berlin.
Raised as a third-culture kid on a small island in the Philippines, he incorporates biographical elements into his work. He explores liminal zones and the migration of ideas, communities, and materials.
Through detailed research and sculptural reinterpretation he identifies localised expressions of broad systems of power, and how they exploit collective intelligence by operating beyond the law. His work acknowledges the conditions faced by migrants, labourers, and outliers. His materially dedicated approach reveals the tangible consequences and physical realities of what it feels like to live in the gap.
